Each program is structured to meet the educational requirements for licensure in the state of Oklahoma; however, requirements may vary by state.

This guide is intended to support OPSU students and graduates as they seek teacher licensure across the United States. It summarizes educational and testing requirements, available temporary certification paths, and reciprocity provisions. All candidates are encouraged to verify information directly with the respective state’s Department of Education.

What is NC-SARA?

SARA Seal group 2024 Participating

Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements.

SARA is an agreement among member states, districts and territories that establishes comparable national standards for interstate offering of postsecondary distance education courses and programs. The purpose of SARA is to make it less challenging for students to take online courses and programs offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state.

SARA is overseen by a national council and is administered by the four regional compacts (SREB, NEBHE, MHEC and WICHE) and is voluntary for states and institutions. Each member state approves its in-state institutions for SARA participation. Institutional membership is voluntary and open to degree-granting institutions from all sectors of postsecondary education (for-profit and not-for-profit private and public) that are accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) shall serve as the state portal agency for purposes of SARA compliance. Once approved, SARA member institutions may offer distance education courses and programs in other SARA member states without additional state authorization.

Student Location Policy

OPSU determines a student’s location based on the address provided at the time of enrollment. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the university of any changes to their locations, as this may affect licensure requirements and disclosures.
