Goodwell, Okla- Oklahoma Panhandle State University is proud to announce the appointment of Stacy Nordquist as the Dean of the College of Arts and Education. A longtime member of the OPSU family, Nordquist brings decades of experience in education and a deep connection to the Panhandle region to his new role.
Nordquist earned his Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from OPSU in 1994 before going on to complete a Master of Science in Administrative Leadership and Supervision in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Although he grew up in Minnesota, his path to Goodwell was shaped by a former coach and mentor who invited him to join the Aggie women’s basketball staff in the early 1990s. What began as a one-year opportunity soon became a lifelong commitment to education and community in the Panhandle.
Before stepping into his new role as Dean, Nordquist served as department chair for Health and Physical Education, where he led efforts to reinstate the Health and Physical Education Teaching Degree. His leadership and commitment to OPSU extended to numerous university committees, including the Faculty Senate and multiple accreditation teams. Through every challenge, Nordquist embraced opportunities to grow, learn, and support student success.
“When I came back to OPSU in 2016, it was my first time fully on the academic side of the university,” Nordquist shared. “Each year came with new responsibilities and learning curves, and every step helped me prepare for this next chapter.”
Nordquist’s commitment to student development has always been central to his work. His early experiences as a coach and mentor helped shape his belief in the power of education to change lives. “I had a great educational experience growing up, and I wanted the students I taught and coached to have that same opportunity,” he said.
Dr. Charla Lewis, Vice President of Academic Affairs, praised Nordquist’s dedication and leadership. “Stacy brings a unique combination of institutional knowledge, heart for students, and strategic vision to the role of dean,” Dr. Lewis said. “He is a dedicated leader who steps up when called, and I am confident he will continue to make a lasting impact on our university.”
President Dr. Julie Dinger praised Nordquist’s appointment, noting, “Stacy Nordquist embodies the very best of OPSU, deep institutional knowledge, unwavering dedication to students, and a genuine passion for educational excellence. His appointment as Dean is a testament to his outstanding leadership and commitment to our mission. I look forward to seeing how his vision and collaborative spirit will continue to elevate the College of Arts and Education, benefiting both our students and the entire region.”
Though not a Panhandle Native, Nordquist has embraced the Panhandle as home. “I’ve visited many of the schools, gyms, and ballfields across the Panhandle. I’ve played in tournaments, refereed games, and lost more than a few golf balls at Sunset Hills,” he added. “Since my first trip to the Panhandle in the summer of 1993, everyone has accepted me and made me feel like I am home. This place has a lot of great memories.”
As he steps into his new role as dean, Nordquist is focused on hitting the ground running. “We are building futures for our graduates,” he said. “My colleagues are all top-notch, and I’m learning all I can from them as we prepare for a strong fall semester.”
His leadership is instrumental in OPSU’s continued investment in academic excellence, student support, and career readiness. The College of Arts and Education is well-positioned to grow its impact and continue its mission of serving students in the Panhandle and beyond.
